Beginning in fall 2025, Robertson Library will be teaching and supporting Zotero as our citation manager, replacing RefWorks.
We understand that researchers, especially faculty, may be working on multi-year publications using RefWorks. So while we will be encouraging all new users to start with Zotero, we will maintain our paid subscription to RefWorks until April 30, 2027. After that date, no UPEI users will be able to log in to RefWorks.
If you would like to learn more about Zotero, consider attending one of these four workshops in September. They are open to UPEI faculty, staff, and students, as well as anyone else who is interested. Each workshop will cover the same content.

Zotero is an open-source citation manager that runs as both a desktop/mobile app and as a web-based online account. Like RefWorks, Zotero has plugins for Google Docs, Microsoft Word, and LibreOffice that allow researchers to insert in-text citations/footnotes and to create bibliographies/references/works cited lists. Zotero also has a powerful browser add-on for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari that makes it easy to save citations from any webpage.
More information about Zotero, including instructions for migrating from RefWorks, can be found on our Zotero webpage.
