CINAHL The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) provides access to information in the fields of nursing, physical therapy, nutrition, occupational therapy, and other allied health fields.
Academic Search Complete A multi-disciplinary database which provides full text for more than 8,500 periodicals, including full text for over 7,300 peer-reviewed journals.
Cochrane Library (free within Atlantic Provinces)| Cochrane Library (proxied for UPEI users outside of region)

The Cochrane Library, owned by Cochrane and published by John Wiley & Sons., is a collection of databases that contain different types of high-quality, independent evidence to inform healthcare decision-making. The Library includes the following:

Covidence

Covidence is online software for managing the systematic review process. It facilitates the process of screening references (both title/abstract and full-text), conducting data extraction, completing risk of bias analysis and creating a PRISMA flowchart. CPS All Access

The online version of the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties, which is the Canadian standard for drug monographs contains thousands of products, including:

  • monographs for drugs, vaccines, natural health products and medical devices — approved by Health Canada
  • Lexi-Interact drug interaction checker
  • critical updates: warnings, advisories and drug shortages;
  • tools: medical calculators, Clin-Info, Pill Identifier and more.
  • current, evidence-based therapeutic information for more than 200 conditions including all content from CPS: Therapeutic Choices and CPS: Minor Ailments;
  • quick glance drug tables that link to monographs;
  • treatment and management algorithms;
  • patient information for medications and minor ailments.

Mobile app instructions (iOs | Google Play )

  1. Go to https://pharmacistsca.my.site.com/s/login/SelfRegister?language=en_US and register for an account.
  2. After creating your account, go to your profile and look for Set Mobile Enterprise Code section. Enter the UPEI organizational code: 0007249
  3. You will also need to enter a password for the app. Once this step is complete, you will be able to login to the app.
RxFiles

RxFiles is an academic detailing program providing objective, comparative drug information to clinicians.  RxFiles also includes newsletter reviews, Q&As, trial summaries, and up-to-date drug comparison charts.  [description from database website]

Emcare

Emcare is a nursing subset of the Elsevier Embase medical database.

It is provided on the Ovid platform as part of the library's "LWW Nursing and Health Professions Premier Collection" of full text nursing journals.

It does not use MeSH subject headings, but has its own thesaurus.

The database indexes many journals that are not full text on Ovid, some of which the library may have elsewhere and some that may require interlibrary loan requests to read.

Searches scholarly literature across many disciplines and sources, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts, and articles. Note: only use the proxied link when you are off-campus. If you are on campus, go directly to Google Scholar as http://scholar.google.ca.

Medline Ultimate

Medline (on the EBSCO platform) with access to extensive full text of approximately ~5100 journals (as of December 2023). More details available from EBSCO

PsycINFO

Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology. 

PsycINFO through EBSCO is integrated in OneSearch, along with APA PsycArticles and many other psychology-related resources.

Note: UPEI students, faculty, and staff are eligible through the main EBSCO subscription to PsycINFO to also access the PsycINFO Research Service at psycinfo.apa.org including the features listed below.  To use it, go to the site and sign up for an individual account, providing your UPEI email address. Use the EBSCO access for actually searching the PsycINFO database itself.

According to the APA contact, the PsycInfo research service on APA's platform provides access to the following:

PubMed

Free, searchable database of biomedical and life sciences literature maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) (part of the National Institutes of Health, or NIH). PubMed facilitates searching across several NLM literature resources:

  • MEDLINE: consists primarily of citations from journals selected for MEDLINE; articles indexed with MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) and curated with funding, genetic, chemical and other metadata.
  • PubMed Central (PMC):  a full text archive that includes articles from journals reviewed and selected by NLM for archiving (current and historical), as well as individual articles collected for archiving in compliance with funder policies.
  • Bookshelf: a full text archive of books, reports, databases, and other documents related to biomedical, health, and life sciences.

PubMed Clinical Queries  tool uses predefined filters to help you quickly refine PubMed searches on clinical or disease-specific topics, e.g. therapy, diagnosis, etc. 

If you want to make a personal account within PubMed, go there using this unproxied link first, and then you can use the "more login options" to find University of Prince Edward Island (under U) and login via your campus account, or you can use one of the other options like Google or Microsoft with your personal (not UPEI) Google/Microsoft account.

Scopus

Scopus provides broad indexing and citation coverage of academic journals, books and conference proceedings published worldwide. Delivering a comprehensive overview ofresearch output in the fields of science, engineering, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities, Scopus features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. Dynamed

DynaMed is a clinical decision support solution with a mission to provide the most useful evidence-based information to healthcare professionals at the point of care.

 

Dynamed is an EBSCO product. It has its own platform for specialty medical use, but some of its content is also discoverable in OneSearch.

JAMAevidence

JAMAevidence helps decision makers identify the best available evidence by providing guides to the systematic consideration of the validity, importance, and applicability of claims about the assessment of health problems and the outcomes of health care. It includes:

JBI EBP

The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Evidence-Based Practice database provides the latest research and evidence-based guidelines regarding patient care, treatment options, and interventions. It provides 5,000+ up-to-date Evidence Summaries, Recommended Practices and Best Practice Information Sheets across 30+ specialty Nursing and Allied Health fields.

Integrates data on over 60,000 topics from over 18,000 sources onto a single professional platform. Categorized into 21 market sectors, Statista.com provides companies, business customers, research institutions, and the academic community with direct access to quantitative data on media, business, finance, politics, and a wide variety of other areas of interest or markets.
Our data sources include market research reports, such as the Ipsos Affluent Survey published annually by Ipsos Media, Simmons National Consumer Studies and Consumer Insights from Scarborough Research, as well as trade publications, scientific journals, and government databases.
