CPS All Access

The online version of the Compendium of Pharmaceuticals and Specialties, which is the Canadian standard for drug monographs contains thousands of products, including:

  • monographs for drugs, vaccines, natural health products and medical devices — approved by Health Canada
  • Lexi-Interact drug interaction checker
  • critical updates: warnings, advisories and drug shortages;
  • tools: medical calculators, Clin-Info, Pill Identifier and more.
  • current, evidence-based therapeutic information for more than 200 conditions including all content from CPS: Therapeutic Choices and CPS: Minor Ailments;
  • quick glance drug tables that link to monographs;
  • treatment and management algorithms;
  • patient information for medications and minor ailments.

Mobile app instructions (iOs | Google Play )

  1. Go to https://pharmacistsca.my.site.com/s/login/SelfRegister?language=en_US and register for an account.
  2. After creating your account, go to your profile and look for Set Mobile Enterprise Code section. Enter the UPEI organizational code: 0007249
  3. You will also need to enter a password for the app. Once this step is complete, you will be able to login to the app.
Health Evidence

Search healthevidence.org for access to 3,853 quality-rated systematic reviews evaluating the effectiveness of public health interventions. We search the published literature and compile public health relevant reviews -- eliminating your need to search and screen individual databases. Use of the database requires registration which is free.

JBI EBP

The Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Evidence-Based Practice database provides the latest research and evidence-based guidelines regarding patient care, treatment options, and interventions. It provides 5,000+ up-to-date Evidence Summaries, Recommended Practices and Best Practice Information Sheets across 30+ specialty Nursing and Allied Health fields.
 

Medline Ultimate

Medline (on the EBSCO platform) with access to extensive full text of approximately ~5100 journals (as of December 2023). More details available from EBSCO

PsycINFO

Contains citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books, dissertations, and technical reports in the field of psychology. 

PsycINFO through EBSCO is integrated in OneSearch, along with APA PsycArticles and many other psychology-related resources.

Note: UPEI students, faculty, and staff are eligible through the main EBSCO subscription to PsycINFO to also access the PsycINFO Research Service at psycinfo.apa.org including the features listed below.  To use it, go to the site and sign up for an individual account, providing your UPEI email address. Use the EBSCO access for actually searching the PsycINFO database itself.

Public Health +

Public Health + comes to you via the McMaster Health Knowledge Refinery. Every article from over 120 medical and allied health academic journals is critically appraised to identify those that are methodologically sound. Articles that pass this process are rated (maximum 7) by clinicians for relevance and newsworthiness, and are then sent to this website. The articles are updated weekly and a searchable archive is kept on this website.

PubMed

Free, searchable database of biomedical and life sciences literature maintained by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) (part of the National Institutes of Health, or NIH). PubMed facilitates searching across several NLM literature resources:

  • MEDLINE: consists primarily of citations from journals selected for MEDLINE; articles indexed with MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) and curated with funding, genetic, chemical and other metadata.
  • PubMed Central (PMC):  a full text archive that includes articles from journals reviewed and selected by NLM for archiving (current and historical), as well as individual articles collected for archiving in compliance with funder policies.
  • Bookshelf: a full text archive of books, reports, databases, and other documents related to biomedical, health, and life sciences.

PubMed Clinical Queries  tool uses predefined filters to help you quickly refine PubMed searches on clinical or disease-specific topics, e.g. therapy, diagnosis, etc. 

If you want to make a personal account within PubMed, go there using this unproxied link first, and then you can use the "more login options" to find University of Prince Edward Island (under U) and login via your campus account, or you can use one of the other options like Google or Microsoft with your personal (not UPEI) Google/Microsoft account.

RxFiles

RxFiles is an academic detailing program providing objective, comparative drug information to clinicians.  RxFiles also includes newsletter reviews, Q&As, trial summaries, and up-to-date drug comparison charts.  [description from database website]
